This is a tough one. Your metabolism does slow down when you diet, but it’s not because your body shuts down or goes into a starvation mode. Your body just does not work that way. Every cell in your body is active twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. The only time a cell shuts down is when it is dead. Your body is very alive and its basic functions run around the clock.
What happens when you diet is that there is less food to be digested and therefore fewer calories are used to process the food. In order to lose weight efficiently when you diet you must exercise. Exercise raises your metabolic rate and burns calories.
