It is true that high fat foods are high caloric food and by eliminating the fat you will reduce the calories that you take in. If you combine this with a good exercise program and a stress reduction program you will probably lose weight. But there is more to losing weight than simply cutting out the fat.
Low fat foods are not necessarily low in calories, Most processed low fat foods substitute lots of sugar to compensate for the flavor lost when the fat is removed. Low fat foods are often packed with calories so look carefully at the label to make certain that the food you choose is both low fat and low calorie.
