How many times have you heard that you can be fat but fit? I have talked to quite a few people who have told me that they were overweight but they had normal blood pressure, and that their triglycerides and blood sugar levels were good. Their statement often was “look I may be heavy but metabolically I am healthy.”
I have important news for any of you who think like that. Your lives are at risk if you are obese. In fact a recent report In The European Heart Journal demonstrated that obese people were about 25% more likely to develop heart disease than people who were at a healthy body weight.
The take home message is clear. If you are hefty or just a little obese strive to lose the weight and get yourself back to a normal body weight for your age and height.
