Are you a sitter? By this I mean do you regularly sit for long periods of time whether at work or at home? If your answer is yes then by all means get up and get up frequently. Prolonged sitting can kill you. This was the conclusion of a recent study in the prestigious Annals if Internal Medicine.
The sedentary behavior of 8,000 Americans aged 45 and older was carefully studied. The researchers found that greater daily sedentary time and longer than average sedentary bouts were associated with an increased risk for death regardless of age, sex, weight and cardiovascular risk factors.
They also found that those who got up every 30 minutes and moved about lowered their risk of death. Give yourself a break!
